Markus Horcher is responsible for sustainability and public affairs at Borealis, one of the world’s leading providers of advanced and sustainable polyolefin solutions. In this current role, he drives the company’s sustainability strategy, focusing on climate neutrality, circular economy, and impactful stakeholder engagement. He also manages the portfolio of CSR projects of the company with strong engagement in Project STOP, building Indonesia’s first regency-wide circular waste system. Markus is passionate about advancing sustainable business, shaping effective public policy, and building partnerships for positive societal impact.
Markus joined Borealis in 2008 as Group Strategy Development Manager, followed by a commercial role as Application Marketing Manager for Caps, Closures & Bottles. His recent leadership roles at Borealis were Director Quality & Project Management Office and Chief Transformation Officer to turnaround Borealis’ fertilizer, technical nitrogen & melamine business.
Previously, Markus was engaged in the pharmaceutical industry at Sandoz in strategic planning and at McKinsey in management consulting.
Markus holds a MSc in Microbiology and a PhD in Genetics from the University of Vienna.
